Drawing from her experience as a professor at MIT and a leading researcher in network coding, Muriel explains how decentralization is not just a philosophy but a technological necessity. Centralized systems, she notes, often fail because they spend more resources on control than on actual functionality. Optimum’s approach introduces Flex Nodes, lightweight permissionless nodes that anyone can spin up to store and propagate data securely across networks.

By separating data management from virtual machines, Optimum enables Web3 infrastructure to mirror the modularity of modern computing—where upgrades and scalability don’t require rebuilding entire systems. Muriel believes this evolution toward decentralized data will define the next generation of the internet: resilient, global, and inclusive by design.
