It’s not our dark skin making us insecure, but rather the reactions we expect from people we are not getting. You don’t have to be lighter to have good-looking skin, your dark skin tone will look healthy and radiant if you have a good skincare regimen in place in addition to certain lifestyle practices.

Skin bleaching really stems from racism and colorism where people with lighter skin tones are favored over people with darker skin tones. We want to alter our dark skin tone because lighter is beautiful and always prioritized across the world. You are probably not aware that the active ingredients for most of these skin-bleaching products have been banned from use from the country of manufacture, but not from being manufactured. So it’s still being manufactured, but sold in different countries.

You don’t have to have lighter skin to feel beautiful, and you certainly don’t have to go through all the trouble to look lighter to be attractive for someone who isn't even worth it. Because people don’t have to love you, and they don’t even have to like you. It is not your job to make people love you. It’s not your job to make people love how your skin looks. It is definitely not your job to make people accept your unique self. Whoever cannot accept who you are and what you look like can walk away. You don’t need them to look or feel good. All you really need is YOU!

Some of these bleaching products have been found to have mercury which can damage the kidneys. It can cause neurological disorders like anxiety and tremors. You can have insomnia, and You can also have headaches among others. What you need is to focus on yourself and embrace who you are because that is within your control and no one else's. The health of your skin is way more important than what someone thinks you should look like. What you should rather do, is build a skincare routine that is tailored for your skin and can make you look and feel your best.
Remember your dark skin is a gift and you need to cherish it.
