1970 Chevrolet Nova SS Muscle car InSane Classic car

The Chevy Nova was the top of the line version of the Chevy two. The Chevy 2 was created to compete with the Ford Falcon. This was partly because the Ford Falcon was outselling the Chevrolet Corvair in 1960. The first generation of Chevy II (1962-1965) sold so well and many improvements were made.
By 1968 the third generation had shed the Chevy II cocoon and nameplate.
By the time this 1970 Chevrolet Nova was born there were approximately 15 engine options available. Nearly 260K 1970 Nova's were sold. Less than 10% of those were Nova SS. Not all SS Nova's came with the coveted 396 V8.
The 1970 396 V8 was actually closer to 402 cubic inches by 1970 The L78 396 had 11:1 compression ratio, rectangle port High performance heads, an aluminum 4 barrel intake generously fed by a Holley carburetor. The L78 produced 375HP and 415lb-ft of torque.
This 1970 Chevy Nova is a SS 396 Tribute. This means it did not come from the factory or dealer with the SS package and L78 396. The word "Tribute" is usually used when a car is upgraded to a higher quality than a "Clone" or "Copy".
