The Death of PoE 3.24 Necropolis League is Heartbreaking

The latest Path of Exile 1 expansion, Necropolis, is among the lowest player retention leagues of all time, only surpassed by Archnemesis in unpopularity at this point in the update. What went wrong with this expansive Path of Exile patch, why am I sad about it, and what can be done in the future by both the POE community and the game developers, Grinding Gear Games?
