Today's Pokemon Deep Dive will zoom in on the Pokemon Munchlax, focusing on its mechanics in its debut game of Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Munchlax is endearing and cute on the surface, but when it was introduced to the series the method required to find one was like nothing ever seen before. This Pokemon had unprecedented rarity, not seen in the past OR future.
In Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Munchlax can be found in golden colored "honey trees" littering the region of Sinnoh. Like its counterpart Snorlax, Munchlax is only willing to come out for a delicious meal. While simple at a glance, the mechanics of these honey trees contains depths beneath the surface, and are the primary cause for Munchlax's extreme and complicated rarity.
On top of this, Munchlax is also an incredibly storied Pokemon, being the first Pokemon revealed for Gen 4. It appeared as a teaser in several games, like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon XD, and Pokemon Dash. People were able to get to know it before it was officially added to the Pokedex. And there's also the issue of the Diamond and Pearl Rival Barry, who has his own unique and frustrating story to tell regarding the little guy. Everything Munchlax and more is being divulged right here, so let's dive in.
