🔍 Methodology:

Data comes from WalletHub, which compared all 50 states using 52 indicators grouped into five areas:

🏠 Personal & residential safety (crime, assaults, thefts, law enforcement presence)

💵 Financial stability (unemployment, debt, credit, savings)

🚗 Road safety (fatalities, DUIs, and road quality)

⚙️ Workplace safety (injuries, health plans, job risks)

🌪️ Emergency preparedness (climate disasters and recovery capacity)

Put together, these scores reveal how well each state protects its residents — not just from crime, but also financial stress and natural threats.

💚 At the top:

🏔️ Vermont (67.22) – #1 overall, combining low crime, excellent job stability, and the safest roads in the country. Nearly 75% of residents feel they live in safe neighborhoods.

🦞 Maine (64.69) – Minimal violent crime, strong disaster readiness, and high community trust.

🌲 New Hampshire (65.75) – The fewest murders and one of the lowest assault rates nationwide, with the most neighborhood watch groups per capita.

🏙️ Massachusetts (66.56) – Great balance of economic stability and low crime; strong job growth adds another layer of security.

🏜️ Utah (62.88) – Outstanding in workplace safety and emergency response, plus well-maintained roads.

🚨 At the bottom:

🎭 Louisiana (36.20) – Last overall, struggling with crime, financial safety, and disaster recovery readiness.

🌴 Florida (38.67) – Exposed to frequent climate disasters and lower road safety scores.

🤠 Texas (38.14) – Falls short in road safety and workplace risk indicators.

🌾 Arkansas (40.16) – Lower rankings in both public safety and emergency management.

🏔️ Colorado (43.12) – Despite economic strength, higher road and housing risks impact its overall score.
