Popular singer Zubeen Garg was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday at his native Kamarkuchi village near Guwahati. His mortal remains were brought in a flower-decked ambulance from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, where lakhs of fans, celebrities and well-wishers had paid their last respects. Draped in the traditional Assamese gamosa and placed in a glass coffin, the singer’s body was accompanied by his 85-year-old father, wife Garima Saikia and family members. Thousands of fans walked with the cortege, singing his songs and chanting his name in grief. As per tradition, his sister Palmee Borthakur lit the funeral pyre, marking an emotional farewell to the beloved music icon.
