Protests after Netanyahu fires Defence Minister Gallant

While much of the world's attention is on the US presidential election, Israel's prime minister has controversially fired his Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant.

Benjamin Netanyahu's critics accuse him of putting politics ahead of national security, as Gallant was widely considered to be a brake on far-right factions.

It wasn't Netanyahu's first attempt to fire the former military general. This time, he says he has support from most of the government.
