"As regards health #inequalities, we're pretty much stuck still in level two, which is: "Oh, let's just still establish there's a problem." says Partha Kar "And I don't think a strategy of “Here is a data which doesn't look good. Can you please all do better?” is a strategy." Do you agree?

Partha Kar is National Specialty Advisor, Diabetes with NHS England. We caught up with him at the Diabetes Africa 2023 UK FORUM to ask him: how can we overcome diabetes inequalities?

Partha Kar's philosophy is straightforward: "If you can give #technology to everybody, then there are no inequalities because you've cut across every particular deprivation sector, particular race issue." He believes that technology has the potential to bridge the gaps in healthcare access, transcending traditional barriers such as geography and socioeconomic status. By leveraging technology effectively, healthcare systems can reach underserved populations and provide equal access to essential services.

The UK Forum also highlighted the specific focus on the Black African Caribbean communities, signalling a shift towards a more targeted and nuanced approach to addressing health disparities. Kar emphasized the importance of recognizing the diverse cultural and demographic differences within communities, emphasizing the need to move beyond broad categorizations and focus on specific groups to effect meaningful change.
