Ford Transit mk1 custom van was available in both petrol & diesel versions. Stevo and #SLRtv visit the Classic car show 2019 at the Birmingham NEC for a look. Launched in the UK during 1965 and produced in Fords Langley plant in Berkshire. #fordtransit was produced with several versions of van both petrol and diesel including the mk1 Transit short wheelbase and Transit long wheelbase. The cab variations included Ford Transit pick up, Ford Transit crewcab, Ford Transit chassis cab, Ford Transit luton, Ford Transit motorhome, Ford Transit camper and the Ford Transit crewbus. The variety seemed endless with several engine choices, petrol options were extensive and these included 1.3 litre, 1.5 litre, 1.7 litre, 2 litre and for the police and other emergency services a 3 litre version was available.

Stevo overflows with excitement when he finds a Ford Transit long wheelbase petrol with 2 sidedoors, wide wheel arches, tiger seat covers & furry dice. The vans looked at during the show are truly historic as they are all manufactured in the early to mid 1970s.

The Ford transit mk1 was dubbed "The backbone of Britain" There were over 7 million Ford Transit vans manufactured. The Ford Transit was used extensively and the workhorse for builders, bands, DJs and the Police to name a few.
