The Mr. Scary Mod is the George Lynch-tuned signature edition of the Hot Mod V2 Evo, which adds a gain control that enables you to go from unity gain to full-out compression with the turn of the knob. But the Mr. Scary Mod is not just about "adding more gain" to all amps. It can also be used to fine-tune higher gain amplifiers for a significantly tighter response. The idea here is you first dial in the sweet spot of the preamp gain of your amp (the Friedman Runt is being used here) before the amp gets too loose and then use the Mr. Scary mod to add back in the sustain. Because the Mr. Scary adds its gain at a later stage downstream within the amp, the result is you can achieve both better note definition and clarity with sustain without over-compression.
