Dr. Sievers was found unresponsive in her Florida home on June 29, 2015. A subsequent investigation led authorities to two men from Missouri, including Curtis Wright, a longtime friend of Mark Sievers. Evidence presented in court alleged that Wright and another individual carried out the attack as part of a planned arrangement.

In December 2015, Mark Sievers was arrested and charged in connection with organising the events that led to his wife’s passing. Prosecutors argued that the actions were deliberate and pre-planned, while the defence contested the allegations.

The trial examined forensic evidence, witness testimony, and the relationships between those involved, culminating in a verdict delivered in early 2020.

As of May 2023, Mark Sievers remains incarcerated at the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida.
