How a "Listening Sandwich" Can Build Your Child's Vocabulary

Think about building a sandwich. You start with two pieces of bread and layer in different foods like meats, cheeses, vegetables, and condiments, right? Well, creating a listening sandwich for your little one isn’t too different! It provides brain nourishment through opportunities to understand language as you layer different strategies or techniques to help your child hear clearly.

Directions to Creating Your Listening Sandwich
🥪If your little one doesn't understand or respond to something you say: pause and wait - then use your listening sandwich!
🥪Repeat what you said such as "Get your shoes!" pause and wait
🥪Then sandwich an LSL strategy such as Be a Director and say "Listen!" while pointing to your ear and repeating "Get your shoes!".
🥪You're providing a little extra assistance to help your child eat up the chance to hear and understand!
