Kashmiri and Persian are both Indo-Iranian languages. The Kashmiri language (Koshur) is further classified under the Dardic subgroup of Indo-Aryan languages. The majority of Kashmiri speakers are from Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmiri language is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and the way it is spoken varies slightly between the Hindus and Muslims, but differences are minor. There are certain features of old Indo-Aryan vocabulary dating from the Vedic Sanskrit era that have been lost in modern Indo-Aryan languages such as Hindi-Urdu, Punjabi and Sindhi, which have been preserved in the Kashmiri language. The Persian language (Farsi) is classified as one of the Western Iranian languages. Persian has had a huge impact on many other languages and cultures, mainly in the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia and holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.
