Описание к видео Mollie Williford: Tulsa Philanthropist and Community Leader | Full Interview

Mollie Blansett Williford dedicated her life to Tulsa through service, leadership, and philanthropy. Born in Houston in 1936, Mollie married Richard Williford in 1957, and the couple moved frequently before settling in Tulsa in 1973. While raising her children, she began volunteering at Children’s Medical Center and Key Elementary, sparking a decades-long commitment to nonprofits across the city.

She went on to serve with the Tulsa Historical Society, Jane Goodall International Board, Tulsa Ballet, Tulsa Opera, the Mental Health Association, and many others. She also became the first woman president of the Summit Club, and coordinated Tulsa’s hosting of the International Sister Cities convention.

Mollie’s life was also marked by resilience. In 1996, she survived a tragic plane crash that killed her husband Richard and left her with severe burns. During her recovery, she assumed leadership of Williford Energy, working daily in the office for ten years and later from home, while continuing her civic service. She also survived cancer, crediting faith and family for her perseverance.

Her philanthropy has left a lasting impact. She gave $5 million to Tulsa’s Gathering Place in memory of Richard, contributed to the Turkey Mountain trails project, and donated a historic painting for the Oklahoma State Capitol. She also supported Texas A&M, where her husband had deep ties, with scholarships and property gifts.

In this Voices of Oklahoma interview, Mollie reflects on her childhood in Texas, her decades of service in Tulsa, her love of cooking and travel, her family traditions, and her advice to young people: “Make the best of whatever hand you are dealt.” Her story is one of faith, generosity, and the enduring power of giving back.
