It's easy to say that acoustic treatment has an effect on your drum room sound and can affect how your recordings come out, be it for drums or another instrument. But how does it really affect the sound, and how much acoustic treatment do you really need.

In this video, we are going to do a little shootout and A/B/C comparison of 3 "levels of treatment" and so we can see exactly how the acoustic form impacts the sound of recorded drums. This will have a ton of sound samples to give you a good idea of the impact. Today's example uses some items from Auralex Acoustics on our drum room, including the ProMAX and the DeskMAX, these are useful movable acoustic panels or acoustic baffles you can set up in your drum room. Pay really close attention to the bass frequencies and how they are building up (resulting in what's often called muddy drums). And also listen how taming the bass frequencies impacts how well you can hear the high end frequencies.
