Many Adventists who identify themselves as progressive wonder if they are delusional in dreaming of a more thoughtful and open-minded church—perhaps, especially, after a week like this one when we’ve watched the top body of our church trying to chart a way forward. In this class, Dr. Charles Scriven will make a case for re-construction, or self-correction—a task that is uncompromisingly biblical and Christocentric.

Teacher:
Charles Scriven, now retired in Tennessee, taught at Walla Walla, served as pastor at Sligo in Takoma Park, and was president of Columbia Union College (now Washington Adventist) and, later, of Kettering College. For about 13 years, he was chair of board of the Adventist Forum. His publications (besides many journal articles) include The Transformation of Culture: Christian Social Ethics after H. Richard Niebuhr and The Promise of Peace, the latter church published (Pacific Press).
