The National Working Class Student Union (NWCSU) connects chapters of the Working Class Student Union (WCSU) located on college campuses across the United States. Together, the chapters and National, use education to raise awareness about socioeconomic issues in higher education and advocacy to empower and support working class students.

The NWCSU will provide resources, brand materials, and strategic planning to the WCSU chapters. Additionally, it will develop and work toward national strategic goals for education and advocacy that the chapters can take to their local campuses.

The first WCSU was founded at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007 by Chynna Haas. During her three years as the organization's president and in the two years since, she has received numerous requests from individuals around the United States and abroad for resources to develop their own Working Class Student Union.

The National Working Class Student Union was created to meet the needs of these students. But before it can begin large-scale fundraising to further its mission, NWCSU must file Articles of Incorporation in Wisconsin, obtain 501c3 status from the federal government, tax exemption from Wisconsin, and the ability to solicit donations in Wisconsin.

Filing for recognition as a 501c3 exempt organization with the federal government costs $400, additionally, there are $65 in fees for nonprofits in Wisconsin (filing Articles of Incorporation for $35, tax exempt filing for $15, and $15 fee to be able to solicit donations in the state), for a total of $465.

NWCSU is founded by Chynna Haas, a working class graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is not currently in a position to pay the $465 filing fee (and other numerous startup costs for the organization) out-of-pocket, so this Indiegogo project is raising funds to cover the filing costs.
