𝐃𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤:-
Kidney health depends a lot on the right choice of fruits and vegetables. While many believe that eating certain foods daily can cure kidney problems, excess consumption often causes more harm than good. A balanced diet with proper rotation of fruits and vegetables is the key to keeping kidneys strong and healthy. In this video, Dr. Puru Dhawan explains which fruits and vegetables are safe for kidney patients and how they should be consumed.

A healthy diet should include proteins, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in balanced amounts. For kidney patients, it is necessary to eat a variety of vegetables and fruits in rotation instead of sticking to one or two items daily. Overeating limited options like bottle gourd or ridge gourd can weaken the body and increase creatinine levels.

Kidney failure patients need to stay away from foods containing acids such as citric, ascorbic, and tartaric acid. Items like tomatoes, tamarind, lemons, oranges, and grapes should be avoided. Vegetables that grow underground, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, arbi, and yam, are high in potassium and must also be restricted. Similarly, pureed forms of spinach or fenugreek should be avoided, though they can be eaten in small amounts when cooked in other ways.

Most other vegetables, like carrot, radish, cucumber, pumpkin, gourds, beans, and seasonal greens are safe if eaten in moderation and in rotation. The body requires strength, so eating a good variety of vegetables ensures supply of essential vitamins and minerals, which supports kidney function and overall health.

Fruits are not essential but provide antioxidants that slow down aging. However, acidic fruits such as mango, oranges, and grapes should be avoided. Fruits like papaya, apple, pear, and chikoo, which taste astringent when raw but become sweet when ripe, are considered safe. Bananas and coconut should be restricted due to high potassium levels. Patients must eat fruits in rotation instead of consuming the same fruit daily.
