The Naperville Township Highway Commissioner will seek re-election in April.

Instead of moving forward with his original plan to step down after his current term is up, Stan Wojtasiak says he will seek re-election as the Highway Commissioner.

This in order to ensure the Township does not enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the city to maintain township road services. Though the city says the plan could save taxpayers close to $800,000, Wojtasiak disagrees.

“I want to make sure the next guy doesn’t have to go through this again. I’m afraid if they put someone else up to take my place he would capitulate with the City and sign the agreement- and it’s not a good agreement, and they refuse to realize that, so I’m going to run again,” said Wojtasiak.

Wojtasiak has held his position since December of 2002.

And at the most recent Naperville Township meeting, board member Paul Santucci proposed that the township also put forth a non-binding referendum to township voters for them to weigh in on the intergovernmental agreement with the city.

The township will continue the referendum discussion at upcoming meetings.
