The Upper Ocoee is a technical Class IV section that requires a master-level understanding of the river. This run features the 1996 Olympic Whitewater Course, where technical precision is the name of the game.

This video shows an expert-level training run with three Middle Ocoee guides preparing for the Upper. We navigate a tight line at Mikey's Ledge, demonstrating the critical timing required to pivot left while avoiding the rooster tail and right bank. As an expert guide, I emphasize that it is critical for the crew to follow commands promptly and correctly. In high-consequence rapids like Godzilla and Humongous, random or uninstructed paddling significantly increases the risk to the crew by throwing off the balance and steering of the raft.
