Screening and presentation by filmmaker and 2022/2023 residency participant Riar Rizaldi. The event takes place as a prologue to the Murmuring Matter (21 – 23 April 2023), the fourth edition of Urgency Intensive by the Jan van Eyck Academie

One-third of the global tin supply is extracted from Bangka island in Indonesia. Tin is the most impacted mineral by the upcoming technological development, which includes artificial intelligence and technology for renewable energy. Natasha is a solar-powered A.I. voice, and in this film, they trace their genealogy and the truth of their origin; from the capital liquidity to labour dynamic.

The ongoing environmental breakdown has made evident the agency of viral, vegetal, animal, atmospheric, and other material manifestations, which have evaded human control and reclaimed an active role in the unfolding of earthly narratives. Bridging the analytical and sensorial, the verbal and non-verbal, the cognitive and affective, Murmuring Matter traverses multiple scales of materials, bodies, river-, forest-, and cityscapes of Maastricht and beyond as gateways to access wider planetary stories and cosmopolitics.
