Basketball Sport Science: Understand Shot Biomechanics to Become a More Accurate Shooter!

Описание к видео Basketball Sport Science: Understand Shot Biomechanics to Become a More Accurate Shooter!

Are you a basketball coach or player? Do you want to improve your game and become a more proficient shooter from the field? Of course you do! In this episode of "Fitness Facts", I sit down with Dr. Dimitrije Cabarkapa to discuss some interesting sports science research that he has conducted here at the University of Kansas specifically pertaining to basketball shooting mechanics and strength training for basketball players. In 2021, Dr. Cabarkapa completed his doctorate degree in exercise physiology at KU, and he is now the Director of Basketball Research in the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Lab. Not only does he currently direct and conduct studies aimed at improving performance on the basketball court, but Dr. Cabarkapa has experience playing the game at a high level. Previously, he was a former Division I basketball player at James Madison University. At James Madison, Dr. Cabarkapa was a proficient shooter from the field. He averaged 10 points per game, and his three-point field goal percentage was 40%, which is indicative of excellent shooting from beyond the arc! Dr. Cabarkapa also has some experience playing professional basketball as well.

Timepoints and Topics Discussed in this Video:
0:01 - Introduction
3:23 - Dr. Cabarkapa's role as a Sport Scientist and Director of Basketball Research in the KU Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory
4:43 - Research Discussion: Differences in biomechanical characteristics between made and missed jump shots in male basketball players
21:20 - Research Discussion: Kinetic and kinematic characteristics of proficient and non-proficient 2-point and 3-point basketball shooters
37:21 - Research Discussion: Relationships between upper and lower body strength on shooting accuracy
39:25 - Importance of strength training for basketball players wanting to advance to higher levels of play (e.g., Division I and Professional)
40:28 - When should basketball players strength train and how does lifting weights affect shooting mechanics?
44:16 - Important coaching cues, and how the findings of Dr. Cabarkapa's research can be applied by basketball coaches and players to improve shooting proficiency/accuracy.
