The Canon RF 100-400mm lens is a triumph of cost, weight and performance, and it's one of the most surprising lenses I've tested (and owned). Recently, a viewer asked me to test it on birds, and although I'm not a competent bird photographer, I vowed to give it a go.

Two important things to note:

1. The light was extremely dull, so almost every shot was captured at 25,600 ISO!
2. Because I'm crap at shooting birds, all the images in this video are cropped and zoomed in up to 150%, which amplifies digital noise. Shot in half reasonable light at anything below 12,800, the images would be significantly better.
