The last official parkrun of 2025 took place on a chilly but sunny morning along the promenade. Just two days after many people's last parkrun, attendance was slightly lower, with 596 participants compared to Christmas Day's 741. We now have just under a week until the first parkrun of 2026, and I wonder what the turnout will be for that event!

We welcomed the "5k Your Way" group, along with plenty of first-timers and tourists. After the announcements, we were off, heading toward the rising sun, which was low and bright, slightly blinding everyone but also providing a hint of warmth against the chilly breeze. The runners formed a conga line, jostling for position as they made their way down the first mile before turning around at Browndown to enjoy the sun on our backs.

As we continued, the masses began to spread out as people found their rhythm and pace. We passed the finish area just as the speedy front runners started to come home in a blur, certainly setting some fast times that day. The rest of the runners continued along the course, making their way to the shack turn before running approximately 800 meters to the finish line. By this point, the sun was higher in the sky and feeling a bit warmer.

If you've ever considered joining a parkrun, perhaps January 1st would be a great time for your first one. Lee-on-the-Solent is very welcoming and inclusive, regardless of your pace.
