Sawmısıs! Mineñ izìmem (isemem) Andy! Ninçek qәllәr?
Hello! My name is Andy. How are you ?
Let's talk about the Baraba Tatar dialect.

Baraba Tatar (also called Paraba) is the traditional Turkic variety associated with the Baraba Tatars of western Siberia, and it is commonly treated in modern reference works as a dialect of Siberian Tatar rather than a fully separate language. In Glottolog it is listed as a dialect entry (“Baraba Tatar”, Glottocode bara1273). Ethnographic/linguistic descriptions note that Baraba functions as a transition variety within the Siberian Tatar dialect continuum (between Tom and Tobol–Irtysh, with notable Kipchak features) and that long-term contact—especially with Russian and with Volga Tatar settlers—has influenced usage and contributed to dialect leveling. The same source reports widespread Russian–Tatar bilingualism since at least the 19th century, with Russian becoming dominant in many public/social domains and Baraba increasingly concentrated among older speakers. (For a broader frame, Ethnologue treats Siberian Tatar as a Turkic language of the Russian Federation, within which Baraba is typically discussed as a dialectal variety. )

Baraba Tatars people/culture (one paragraph). The Baraba Tatars are described as a subgroup of the Siberian Tatars and an Indigenous Turkic-speaking population historically associated with the Baraba steppe and the Chany Lakes area in western Siberia; their settlements today are largely within Novosibirsk Oblast (with some in neighboring areas such as Omsk Oblast), often intermingled with Russian and other nearby communities. In the same ethnographic account, Islam is presented as a major consolidating institution in community life, historically linked with village religious schooling (maktab/madrasa traditions) and literacy, while the Soviet period is described as bringing collectivization, suppression of religious institutions, and a shift toward Russian-language schooling that further reduced public use of the native variety. Economically, the source describes Baraba Tatars historically as cattle-breeders and merchants with a strong specialization in horses (including reputations as horse dealers), with later changes in livelihood patterns under state policies and broader regional integration.
