Hosted by Dr. Tommy Sors, Director of Scientific Strategy and Relations at Purdue's Institute of Inflammation, Immunology, and Infectious Disease, we present captivating discussions unveiling the exciting journeys of these budding researchers.

In this recording, we feature Ruth Anyaeche, who received her Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Ruth joined the Hilkka I. Kenttamaa research group in 2019 in the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University and is pursuing her PhD in analytical chemistry.

Ruth's research involves the development of mass spectrometric methods for the fast identification of functional groups in unknown analytes in complex mixtures. She couples machine learning with tandem mass spectrometry-based on diagnostic ion-molecule reactions to automate HPLC/MS experiments. Additionally, Ruth is actively involved in synthesizing radical precursors to study their gas-phase reactivities and exploring quantum chemical calculations.

Each graduate student speaker, like Ruth, shares insights into their scientific journey and the exhilarating experiences they encounter during their pursuit of advanced degrees. This program is highly valued, especially by high school educators who use these videos to introduce modern scientific approaches and careers in science to their students. Both high school and undergraduate students get a firsthand look at the groundbreaking research happening at Purdue University.
