In its first edition, Jordanian Fashion Week features the collections of eighteen Middle East designers.
Models stride down the catwalk showcasing the work of emerging designers, hungry for international success.
STORYLINE:
Metallics, leg slits and off the shoulder gowns grace the catwalk in Amman.
Kicking off Jordan's first Fashion Week is Lebanese designer Jean-Louis Sabaji's collection inspired by the '80s.
"It's all about the '80s glitz and glamour. As you can see in the pieces, it's all about shiny metallics," says Sabaji.
Wowed by the huge effort put into the collections attendee Rand Khwaja highly recommends the event.
"I think the designers' picks are interesting, they come from different backgrounds and different styles which makes a nice combo for the runways."
Jordan Fashion Week's founder, Shirene Rifai, says the two-day event gathered more than fifty designers from Jordan and the Middle East.
She hopes the event will boost their profile both nationally and internationally.
"It's not just about the international media and giving them that exposure, but at the same time I wanted the country itself to get to know their own designers. And I think we proved that we have a lot of artists here," she explains.
It's Jordanian designer Mais Al-Fatleh first fashion show, she is showcasing her collection, 'fluidity' - inspired by the colours of summer and flowing fabrics.
"It was really hard for me to finish it because it's all capes and it's really long and there are flowers we have to cut and put on the fabrics. Some details were really hard but we did it, finally," she explains.
The event is a roaring success, but next time around visitor Ammar Abuarja says he would like to see more men's fashion on the runway.
"The shows are especially for women so I would love to have more shows for men. Especially, Jordanian guys are really fashionable."
Designers had the chance to show some of their work in a designated area.
Among them was Jordanian designer, Ahmad Khrabsha, who worked on his first collection while studying.
"This is my first collection. It was my graduation project for the institute. The collection is inspired by Gemini women, Gemini's are confident and strong women, free and courageous who don't care about people's words. If you look at the details behind, all the details are plain, there is no work because the women from behind don't care about people talking. A courageous woman who sums up all women."
Eighteen different designers had the chance to strut their latest collections on the runway at the Kempinski Hotel. The event ran from the 29 March to 30 March 2019.
