UFC 323 signaled the end of pay-per-view for elite MMA on the ESPN platform as the market-leading promotion now moves its live events business to Paramount+, and as we near the new order, speculation mounts over the UFC's tentpole shows throughout 2026. There is arguably no combat event next year that has captured the attention of the fans like plans for The White House in June. And UFC boss Dana White even hinted Saturday at a fighter who is all but guaranteed to compete in Washington D.C., in front of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Names like Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are perpetually linked with headlining marquee shows, regardless of whether that's the UFC's first numbered event on Paramount+, or The White House, but, per White, there is an alternative cult hero who Trump cannot stop talking about.
It is no surprise to learn of Trump's fascination with certain fighters on the UFC roster, as White has spoken enthusiastically about the president's love for the sport, and he's even been seen Octagonside at numerous UFC events. White also told GIVE ME SPORT and other reporters before that Trump has a habit of calling him up every Monday just to talk about fights from the previous weekend.
Now, White's revealed who on the roster Trump actually "loves."
"President Trump loves Derrick Lewis. The president … will not stop talking about Derrick Lewis."
This all means one thing for the UFC heavyweight, according to White, he has "a big fight coming up for Derrick."
White was speaking to the media after UFC 323, an event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas which saw two championship belts change hands as Petr Yan pulled off one of the greatest comeback stories in MMA when he rolled back the years to dominate Merab Dvalishvili in the main event. Earlier on the card, Alexandre Pantoja dislocated his shoulder and lost his flyweight title just 26 seconds into his fight against fast-rising star Joshua Van.
The UFC returns with a Fight Night event on the 13th of December, which is its last show of the year. It will not return until the 24th of January with UFC 324 which sees Justin Gaethje fight Paddy Pimblett at lightweight. Kayla Harrison takes on Amanda Nunes in a women's bantamweight bout.
