Looks like DeNA is starting to go through the meh/whatever strikers with Caitlin and Ethan getting masters day grid expansions (Ethan’s is next month, but still thought I’d bring him up). Caitlin is about as basic of a striker as you can get, though her item is pretty much useless unless you use her tank mode. To coincide with her basic kit, she also got a very basic grid expansion, basically giving her everything she was missing. This is not bad by any means, but she just didn’t get anything very interesting, aside from Super Freebie 9.
I do kinda feel bad for my reaction to this grid on my post since I definitely overhyped it for what it actually was. Tbf, it was right after 5/5 Steven’s grid, so my expectations were a little lower than usual haha. The saddest thing about Caitlin is that her biggest problem doesn’t even have to die with her buffs, which are actually pretty good. Her biggest issue is her competition. Psychic is one of the most powerful types in the game, and even if I don’t own a lot of psychic types myself, I’d still rather pick Giovanni of Will over her given the options. Overall, she got a good expansion and can clear psychic stages with relative ease, but lack of interesting new nodes still makes her a relatively unmemorable unit. Enjoy!

0:00 General Team
Caitlin was already pretty good at self buffs, but with Critical Eye on her TM, she can now max out almost all of her offensive stats with relative ease. She just needs a little bit of special attack to max her stats, which Lodge Dawn provides, along with some defensive buffs as well. Bianca is still my only psychic terrain setter, plus with her and Caitlin sharing a few theme skills, these two were a no brained together.
This was actually the first time since Kris that I’m showing a five star grid expansion without EXing the unit (and Ethan will probably be the same tbh). Though after I had to reset so many times after she missed a crit on at least (and I kid you not) 6 SYNC MOVES, I don’t think she earned it.
2:24 Dual Strike
A very powerful strategy that is to the new parameters, I decided to show how strong Caitlin is with it. Since Caitlin is as basic as a striker can get, running a secondary striker with her is pretty good to make up for her average dps. SS Brendan hastens the teams buffs so they can start spamming almost immediately.
4:15 On-Type LG
Caitlin in gauntlet is generally better as a tank (as I’ll show later), but when Terrakion is eventually added to a rotation, she should have too much of a hard time against him. I originally had a more “wacky” team for him, but after the “multiple syncs not critting” thing, I didn’t want to deal with something like that, so I ended up with this. Lodge Silver is only really here because I don’t use him often as a flincher (and the first half shows why pretty well).
6:44 LG Tank Example
What if I told you, with all my years playing this game, that this was the first time I have ever tanked with Caitlin? Reason I never got around to it was honestly because it took a long time for me to get her to 3/5, and by that point she wasn’t a viable tank anymore (my luck in a nutshell, honestly).
But, I did see a friend of mine run this team for several LGs, so I figured I may as well try it. My Caitlin’s lucky skill is still CS2, so I wanted to try it on a more tame stage. In this case, I chose Tapu Bulu since it hits pretty hard, along with being a pretty easy stage to beat as well. I did run into some gauge issue, but I think that was a problem with N’s grid more than anything. I was very impressed that Caitlin was able to take that Wood Hammer so well, even with the attack debuffs mitigating the damage, it was still a nice surprise.
9:44 Off-Type Damage Example
Very messy clear, but still one I could easily see myself doing in a gauntlet run. As I mentioned before, Caitlin is better in gauntlet as a tank, but she can still do damage if your somehow lacking in those areas before supports. Cobalion is going to be in the next LG, so I figured it was a good stage to show. I got super lucky with misses and especially with paralysis procs. I do have to ultimately change Norman’s lucky skill to Vigilance, but with the next LG including Cobalion it was only a matter of time.
