Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com.
When we left you last week, we were eagerly watching to see if any of the Hilton Head all-star baseball teams could finish off their quest to claim a state championship, and it was the 10-and-under Minors team that finished the job.
After breezing through their first four games to reach the championship game, the island boys ran into trouble Thursday morning and dropped a tough 4-2 game to Blythewood to force a winner-take-all rematch, which Hilton Head dominated, winning 10-3 to take the crown and advance to the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series next month in Bossier City, Louisiana.
We’ll talk more about the championship run with coach Rob Hummel on tonight’s LowcoSports Lowdown, streaming live at 9 p.m.
We’ll also reflect on the second annual Lowcountry Legacy Alumni Basketball Tournament, which went off this weekend at the Hardeeville Rec Center with a team of former Wade Hampton Red Devils running it back to take the title for the second straight year. The Devils took down the Ridgeland-Hardeeville alums in the championship game.
Always great to see some former Lowco high school stars lace ‘em up again and put on a show.
And the USCB Sand Sharks received good news late last week, when the NCAA Division II Membership Committee approved USCB to advance to year 3 of the provisional period, the final stage before the Sand Sharks become a full-fledged member with postseason eligibility.
Fins up.
Check in with us at 9pm tonight for the LowcoSports Lowdown to get updates on all the latest sports news, analysis, and insight from around the Lowco and beyond.
For LowcoSports and WHHI, I’m Justin Jarrett. Until next time, Go Lowco.
