n this episode of Gardening with Bear Brown, we’re turning one epic harvest into another! 🌱 I just pulled some monster onion plants from my raised bed, and now it’s time to reset that garden space for a fresh round of crops—this time, planting peppers! If you’re serious about growing more food in less space, this is how you do it.

➡️ Maximize your growing space by planting successively—don’t let that garden bed sit idle! After harvesting, we’re diving right into how to prepare the soil for the next round of planting.

💪 But first, we need to remineralize the bed. Onions are heavy feeders and can pull vital nutrients from your soil, especially nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). Without replacing what’s been used, your next crop could suffer.

Here’s how I remineralized my garden bed:

🧂 Added compost to improve organic matter and soil structure

🪨 Sprinkled rock dust and gypsum to restore trace minerals

💧 Used a balanced organic fertilizer to replenish NPK (I explain why each nutrient matters)

🔄 Mixed it all in and watered deeply to activate the soil biology

🎯 Whether you’re growing onions, peppers, or anything else, this method will help you keep your garden productive all season long.

👨‍🌾 This is gardening the smart way—no wasted space, no wasted time. Let’s grow more food, right where we are!

🌶️ Planting the Pepper Plants:
Once the soil was refreshed, it was time to transplant the pepper seedlings. Here’s how I did it:

Spacing: I planted each pepper about 18 inches apart, giving them enough room to grow and allowing airflow to reduce disease pressure.

Planting depth: I buried each seedling just a bit deeper than it was in the pot, covering the base of the stem slightly to promote a stronger root system.

Soil contact: I gently pressed the soil around each plant to remove air pockets and ensure good root-to-soil contact.

Watering: After planting, I gave them a deep watering to help them settle in and reduce transplant shock.

Mulching: I added a thin layer of mulch to help hold moisture and regulate soil temperature—essential for pepper success in summer heat.

🎯 Whether you’re growing onions, peppers, or anything else, this method will help you keep your garden productive all season long.
