Valentin Zukovsky (Robbie Coltrane) sets up James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) to meet with the head of the Janus syndicate at the Grand Hotel in St Petersburg.

Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) turns up and tries to squeeze Bond to death, but Bond overpowers her, and demands she take him to the head of Janus.

The head of Janus is revealed to be his old friend and partner, Alec Trevelyan aka 006 (Sean Bean), who faked his death earlier in the film. Trevelyan tells Bond his plan, and knocks him out with a dart gun.

Trevelyan also ties him up in the Tiger helicopter with the sole survivor from Severnaya, Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco), with missiles set to target the helicopter. Bond ejects the helicopter just in time before the missiles hit, but Bond and Simonova are taken by the Russians for questioning.
