Описание к видео The Gynaecological Cancer Centre at the Royal Hospital for Women

The Gynaecological Cancer Centre at the Royal Hospital for Women has been an internationally recognized leader in gynaecological cancer care for over 25 years. Its Director is Professor Neville Hacker, who trained, and then worked on the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 1978 to 1986.

The Centre provides multidisciplinary care, with a wide range of experts, who work in a mutually respectful multidisciplinary team. The aim of the centre is to provide the best possible outcome and support for the patient. Compared to most Centres, there is a strong emphasis on surgery, but chemotherapy, radiation therapy, medical expertise, hereditary cancer, palliative care, psychological support and expert nursing and paramedical care are features of the Centre.

Clinical research into ovarian, cervical and vulvar cancer in particular has long been a feature of the unit, and for the past 20 years, the unit has been collaborating with a basic research team whose work has been directed at finding a screening test for ovarian cancer. The Centre is also a major training centre in gynaecological cancer care for gynaecologists from all around the world. This includes many from the developing world, who often come as observers for up to 6 months.
