Longest Train Ever With DPU Stops Over Main Crossing In Town & Sits. Then A Train With A Manned Pusher Locomotive On The Rear Comes Up The Hill, Stops, The Pusher Unit Cuts Off & Returns Back Down The Hill. I Was In The Perfect Place. Fast Intermodal Train With 3 Norfolk Southern Locomotives Passes Me With Wheels Clacking. Also Includes Erlanger Fire Department Trucks.
These train are in Erlanger, Kentucky and Florence, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line. This is the 300+ mile route that Norfolk Southern recently bought from the city of Cincinnati. Until this line was sold, Cincinnati was the longest city in the world. NS made one heck of a brilliant move buying this busy line. Don't get me started lol.
First, we see a local crew running light to work a customer on a spur that is just south of Erlanger, Kentucky. There are a few customers on that spur and I have never filmed it, yet.
Then we see a monster train start down the big hill that leads to the Ohio River Valley. The train stopped for a while because there was another train ahead of it waiting to enter Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati, Ohio. Look how long this train was. It has a DPU in the middle and had so many cars that I was unable to count them. I hope someone counts the cars for me.
Next, we have a heavy train come up the hill. This train needed a push so a manned helper locomotive can be seen pushing it up the hill. Right after it passed me it stopped and the pusher unit returned past me again to go back down the hill.
I moved south a few miles to Totten Lane and got a fast intermodal train. Listen to the train clanking as it passes the railroad crossing. There is a rail connection there that causes the clanking sounds. I knew this train was coming because I saw it passing through Lexington , Kentucky on the Berkshire Trains live web cam. Incidentally, I used to live in Lexington at the next railroad crossing north of where that live web cam is. I lived next to the Waller Avenue crossing with a perfect view of both tracks from my bedroom and living room windows. Mrs Tooth and I lived there when we got married. When we lived there the building was an apartment building. It changed over to condos. Our unit was sold while we lived there so we moved from the 4th floor up to the 8th floor and they gave us half off of our rent for a month. Both units were in the corner closest to the railroad crossing. It was fun watching the trains. I want to make a video showing the building we lived in and show where we worked.
