Diocletian Palace, Split, Croatia [Amazing Places 4K]

Описание к видео Diocletian Palace, Split, Croatia [Amazing Places 4K]

The Roman emperor Diocletian built the palace between 295 and 305 CE for his retirement. The Diocletian's palace is one of the best preserved roman buildings from late antiquity, its ruins are in the central area of the city of Split in Croatia.
The residents of the area since the 7th century transformed the palace into a town by building and incorporating their homes into the old walls, columns and structures. The Saint Domnius Cathedral and the Romanesque bell tower were built in the Middle Ages, using materials from the ancient Diocletian mausoleum. Today the ruins and the historic buildings are in an inhabited part of the city, intermixed with shops, restaurants, and houses.
The Diocletian's Palace is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site not only for the Roman ruins but also for the gothic and baroque buildings from the middle ages.
