At a Google event, CEO Sundar Pichai announced the India–America Connect Initiative, a major digital infrastructure project that will deploy new subsea cable routes to boost AI connectivity between India and the United States, extending to multiple locations across the southern hemisphere. These “AI highways” are designed to handle the data‑intensive needs of modern AI workloads—improving latency, resilience, and capacity for everything from model training to real‑time inference.
Recognizing that infrastructure must be matched by talent, Pichai also unveiled Google’s most ambitious skilling programs in India to date, including a new Google AI Professional Certificate to help learners and professionals master AI in their work. The skilling push aims to close capability gaps, enable businesses to adopt AI faster, and ensure that India’s workforce is ready for the next wave of AI‑driven growth.
