Homilies for Busy People: The Disco Ball!!! Fifth Sunday of Easter. John 13:31-33a, 34-35

What would you say if someone is calling you to be a “disco-ball”? Well, Jesus is calling you be so in the Gospel this weekend. Disco-balls are basically balls that reflect a spotlight shining of them. It is inevitable and actually required; this is what gives a purpose of existing to a disco-ball.

Today Jesus invites us to reflect his love for us through what we do and say. Lately, there are so many shadows that attempt to savagely darken our world, our lives and even our faith.

Yet, God is light and the light that we freely receive from our relationship with God, the light that we receive through the Sacraments and the light we receive from our encounter with Jesus in the Gospels, is the very light that will cast shadows.

Jesus shines when we reflect his kindness, hope and faith. So, let us be Jesus’ disco-balls and reflect that so that others can know that we are his and that we are doing our part in our covenant of faith: “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:31-33a, 34-35)
