Sports journalist Justin Allen started writing for the East Kent Mercury in 1996 and his career has taken in the BBC, Sky Sports, The Sun, News of the World, The Times, Daily Express, Evening Standard, Daily Star and The London Paper.

He started out covering Dover Athletic in non-league and went on to report on Premier League and European matches as well as major international tournaments.

Here he gives us a unique and insightful whistlestop tour through three decades as a sports journalist.

He talks about his early days cutting his teeth on the Kent coast interviewing the likes of then England boss Glenn Huddle through to talking consistently to some of English football’s biggest names.

Justin was the first national newspaper journalist to interview Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino.

And he also worked with Arsenal legends Thierry Henry and Ian Wright and gives unique insight.

Also he tells a funny story about an interview he did with Arsene Wenger as well as a chat he had with ex-Arsenal captain Tony Adams.

He also recalls how he had Barcelona and Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o on speed dial, went go-karting with Andros Townsend and took Premier League manager Thomas Frank out for a few pints and a chat at a pub in Brentford.

Legendary manager Neil Warnock also says a few words about his working relationship with Justin.
