Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And, today I'm taking a look at the Swagman XC2 platform-style bike rack for two bikes, on a 2014 Honda CR-V. Now, this bike rack is a very minimalistic bike rack. Not a ton of frills, but it is platform-style, and it does have a frame mount that secures the bike. So, as you can see, for not having a whole lot of hardware on here, it does a really good job of holding that onto the vehicle. So, taking a closer look, we can see this hoop style, and that's gonna have any tire that's up to 2 1/2 inches to be able to sit in here.
So, that's gonna count for most bikes, even some mountain bikes, as long as you're not going to a fat tire, it should be fine on here. Also, you don't wanna use an e-bike, as the weight rating is 35 pounds. You're also gonna notice there are knobs that you can adjust these wheel hoops, to accommodate either children's bikes, whether they be small up to 52 inches. So, that's a pretty big bike. This should cover it.
So, we see that there's no straps on the wheel hoops. So, all the security is really done by sitting in there, and using this ratcheting system on the frame itself. So, we'll take this one off and look a little bit closer at it. So, as you can see, all I had to do is push this button, and it does have a ratcheting style, which, as you push down, you can hear it clicking in place, so you know it's secure. They are offset, so this one is a little bit longer, so when you put that on the back, this one can still sit on top, and you can get an even frame attachment.
So, to remove the bike, super easy as well. Same thing we have there. And then, you're able to remove the bike. Now, as you can see, there is a center mast here. If you choose to, you're also able to drop this out of the way.
And what that's gonna do, is make it easier for that bike to come off. Now, that's not where the feature stop though. If we put this back in the center position, you're also able to fold this into a compact traveling position, when you don't have your bikes attached. And, that's as simple as pulling these pins, which have this little ball lock here, and that just snaps in place. And, it's on a nice convenient wire, and that way, if you drop it, you haven't lost your pin. So, now you can actually fold these arms up, put those in place, and set these back on here. And within a few seconds, it transforms into a very compact rack. So, this is gonna be really good for people, if they have a small area, or a small house, and a lack of storage, this bike rack obviously goes to a small position. So, storage is not a problem. And also, it's very lightweight. So, you get the benefit of the platform style, the security, but also you really don't get a ton of fluff, or things you don't need. The essentials are here. Now, as you can see, the shank does raise up, giving you a little extra added ground clearance. So, let's take a look at what we have. From the bottom of the bike rack to the ground, puts us at about 15 inches. So, that's something to take into account, if you're going to an off-road trail, or you're going up a hill, that this doesn't bottom out. We're also gonna measure from the back of the car, to the furthest point on the rack here. It's gonna be right at about 21 inches. So, remember that if you're backing into your garage and you kinda forget that your bike rack's there, leaving out space, that way you're not hitting anything. So, let's also look at our anti-rattle hitch pin. This is a nice feature that is included here. And so, what that's gonna do, as you tighten this down, it's gonna cinch this up, and that way the rack itself does not wobble in the hitch. It also comes with a pin, so you can put that in, and it should keep it secure. Now, it doesn't come with any locking features, but that is something that we have here at etrailer, if that's something that you need, whether it be a bike latch for the bikes itself, or a locking hitch pin. So, now we're gonna take this out on the test track and see how this performs with the bike attached to it, and hitting some bumps in the road. Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is gonna show us the side to side action, which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Next, we're at the alternating speed bumps, which will see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driv
