Notes from the composer:

Through the extensive experimentation of 20th Century composers, a new world of potential creative expression has been uncovered for the instruments of percussion in formal music.

Adjunct to this progress is the need for materials which can help the student percussion player prepare himself for the technical and musical demands of our composers, materials appropriate to prepare the students to solve the definite interpretive problems existing in contemporary serious music.

The following solos for snare drums, written to serve the high school student in contest, or the professional in audition, are offered as a contribution to this goal.
