in case there's any question about whether or not i actually mapped this to a drum rack and am actually triggering samples, here is one of my practice videos. I learn one section of the song at a time, play it for a few hours, and then record myself doing it, so i don't forget how to play it. Then I move on to the next section of the song. Often when I come back to the original section, I forget how to play it! that's why i record myself in the first place, to remind myself of how i played it, the fingering i used, and the sample positions on the grid.

In all honesty, this is the easiest part of the whole process, and it comes LAST, after the hundred hours of sound design, recording, and mixing. All you have to do is practice the song for 20 or so hours, and you'll be super fluent. I never start a project on a launchpad. I actually don't use the launchpad when I'm building a song. I use it to perform a song that I've already written, recorded, mixed, and built.
