The Death of a Season

Upstate New York in the late winter/early spring is one of the most dead looking places. everything is wet and muddy, the sky is always grey, the snow is a dirty shade of white, the trees look like they will never have leaves again, and there is a sense of dread in the air. You can see the factory smoke more and more, you here some people talking about their problems, bars are open later, people are driving worse, everything and everyone is disconnected. Everyone is distracted. From the Adirondack foothills to the Southern tier, everyone is holding their breath until the green comes back. I was looking for the little things this time of year has to offer. Something to take my mind off the way I see the world. From the rain outside the bar, the snow drifting on our airbnb, the wind blowing the evergreens. From the changes I see ahead, the new home, the new year, the new job, the new struggles, the new pains. Spring gives me a lot of time to think. By the time you are reading this spring gone.
