A brief description of Fritillaria imperialis cultivation in the garden, including a very rough, and probably unsuccessful, attempt of hand-pollination (I will give some follow-up about it in the next few weeks).
A wonderful plant whose bright flowers topped by a crown of leaves make a bold statement in every garden. Beautiful when planted alone standing out against the surrounding vegetation, breathtaking when planted in groups. Wild-type flowers are orange-red, however in cultivation different varieties are available, from yellow to orange to red. Full sun and well drained soil are a must for the cultivation of this species. Main pests are scarlet lily beetle (Lilioceris lili) and snails/slugs, so keep an eye on them.
