Have you ever found yourself creating THOUSANDS of flashcards to cram for your next exam? If so, you probably know that relying solely on flashcards is not a feasible approach to ensure you're adequately prepared - if you’re using flashcards to try and UNDERSTAND information, then I’m sorry to say, there will also be limitations. 

You’re learning information in isolation and you’re not looking at how information comes together to form a bigger picture. Nowadays exams arent just testing understanding. Instead, they’re testing your ability to apply, analyse and evaluate, also known as the higher orders of thinking skills required for higher-order learning.

Because of the lower-order nature of flashcards as a technique, your brain doesn’t hold onto information very well so your brain doesn’t see it as very relevant to hold on to, and when information isn’t made RELEVANT, your brain will not bother dedicating the extra energy to remember that information in the future. This means you will end up forgetting that information more easily!

By adopting our approach, which involves Relational prioritised learning, only using flashcards for isolated facts and Interleaving, you can efficiently grasp the content on your initial encounter with it.
