Exploring Sego Ghost Town & Rockhounding Yellow Cat for Agate!

Описание к видео Exploring Sego Ghost Town & Rockhounding Yellow Cat for Agate!

The Ghost Town of Sego, Utah is located within Sego Canyon, just north of Thompson Springs. It is an old coal mining town that was inhabited until about 1955. The Sego Canyon rock art site is incredible, and has styles of rock art from the Fremont, Ute, and Barrier Tribes!

Yellow Cat, Utah, is a well known rockhounding spot that produces beautiful red agates and petrified wood. I like to find the Agate after Barite pseudomorphs. If you can find whole barite nodules, they cut open to reveal really neat red agate cores that polish really well. After a visit to Yellow Cat Mine, I followed the bench road to the east and stopped at various points and hiked into areas that looked promising. It is such a large area to explore!

GPS:

Sego Canyon Rock Art Site: 39°01'05.3"N 109°42'37.3"W

Sego Ghost Town: 39°02'00.7"N 109°42'11.4"W

Yellow Cat Mine: 38°50'52.9"N 109°31'42.1"W - Agates and Wood can be found all throughout this VAST area. There does appear to be claims in the area around the mine, so I worked my way east and then hiked into areas free of claim markers. Not sure if the claims are active or not, so I just avoided them. There is a LOT of area to explore, so if you go, be sure to get off the beaten path and have fun!
