External devices might be connected with Microcontroller, say, one example GSM. Microcontroller can communicate with that device by sending and receiving data serially. For serial communication, only two wires are needed. Microcontroller have two pins Tx and Rx used for serial communication.

I have discussed about standard protocol which is followed here while sending or receiving data serially.

Different devices are compatible with different standard like RS232, TTL. Here I have discussed about the voltage level of RS232 system and TTL system.

For serial communication, Microcontroller’s two Pin Tx and Rx are connected with Rx and Tx pin of other TTL devices. If the other device is not TTL standard then a converter is required. Here I have discussed how MAX232 converter is used for this case.

For serial communication between devices, Baud Rate setting of both devices must be same. Here I have discussed how Baud rate of Microcontroller can be set.
