James Gunn’s Superman (2025) is a fresh take on the iconic hero — one that feels almost surreal. The story blends emotion, action, sci-fi, and satire, sometimes jumping between tones like a dream. If you go in expecting the classic, invincible Superman, this might surprise you. But if you're open to something more grounded and emotionally sincere, it’s a unique ride worth taking.

Clark Kent (played by David Corenswet) is caught between being an alien god and a compassionate human. When Lex Luthor uses a pocket universe and manipulative tactics to challenge Superman, the stakes go beyond just physical battles. Add in Krypto the superdog, political conflicts, cool cameos, and stunning visuals — and you’ve got a film that’s ambitious, if a bit uneven.

The positives? A bright tone (finally breaking DC’s gloom), solid performances, gorgeous VFX, creative action, and moments that really connect emotionally — especially the bond between Superman and Krypto. Longtime DC fans will enjoy the cameos and references even more.

The negatives? The film assumes a lot of DC knowledge, the tone sometimes feels all over the place, and Superman’s powers (like super-hearing or true light-speed) are underused. Lex Luthor’s motivations feel a bit silly at first, and the final act lacks the “Superman-level” payoff you might expect.

Overall, it’s not perfect — but it’s sincere, fun, and refreshingly human.
