We were lucky enough to make it to the Naadam Festival while we were traveling through Mongolia. Naadam Festival is the biggest major national holiday in Mongolia and is celebrated across the country. The major event is celebrated in the countries capital Ulaanbaatar, but there are smaller more provincial celebrations across the country. The Naadam festival has three main sporting events: wrestling, archery and horse riding. All of these events are taken incredibly seriously.

The 21 Day Dragoman Tour started in the capital of Mongolia Ulaanbaatar / Ulan-Bator. It's a 3-week tour that starts and ends in the capital. The tour took us through the province capital of Moron. We were fortunate enough to be there to celebrate day 3 of the Naadam Festival. We arrive in the morning and were lucky enough to catch the end of the horse racing events. We then made our way to the central arena where we were able to witness the semifinals of the wrestling. Unfortunately, as it was day 3 of the festival all the archery events had been completed.

The festival had a very carnival spirit to it. There were market stalls, carnival games, and competitions. It seemed as though many local families had come to celebrate together.

Mongolia is a country like no other. It's like travelling back in time. With a population of only 3 million - half of which live in the only major city (Ulan-Bator) - Mongolia can be difficult to travel. With this in mind, we jumped on a tour with a UK based company - Dragoman Overland. It was SO worth it. These guys were great. We can't imagine seeing and experiencing Mongolia any other way.
