In today's video I want to show you some parts of the Kola Festival at Babbu Swami Temple in Manipal under Udupi district of Karnataka.
Kola is celebrated as an annual festival in parts of southern and northern Karnataka, especially in Mangalore and Udupi. This kola is a form of worship to the spirits and gods. The locals worship the spirits for the welfare of the village. Angry spirits mean that something bad is likely to happen in the village. Therefore, the local people of the village perform this puja to satisfy the souls. In this kola, a person performs this dance in disguise and it is said that at one point the person performing this dance has a miraculous power in his body and takes the form of God for a while.
